RML Utilities provide command line tools and interactive reports enabling you to: Take SQL Trace files (captured with SQL Profiler, sp_trace or Extended events in SQL 2012+), Process them into replayable RML files (using readtrace.exe) Play them back in a different SQL environment (using ostress.exe) And compare the performance at a granular level (using reporter.exe or custom queries) RML Utilities are usefull for testing virtualized server, service packs, new indexes, or other SQL Server changes against a captured production SQL load. We will walk through performing a sp_trace capture, create RML files, replay and compare results using the RML utilities and a custom report query.
